FUN WITH STICKERS
When my daughters were young, we would buy packs of stickers and “play stickers” which meant that we would decorate each other with them. We would stick them on our arms and legs and face. It was a fun thing for all of us to do together and gave us some mother-daughter bonding time. We would look silly with stickers stuck all over our faces and arms and laugh at ourselves because it was fun. I have always loved stickers. I do not know why.
Sticker Shock
Fast forward to 2019, when I found out about the hobby of decorating planners with stickers, and my world shifted on its axis. Who knew that adults were now having fun with stickers by decorating their planners and journals with them? You probably knew ages ago, but I didn’t know until I started working at a Hobby Lobby store in 2019.
Customers would come through my cashier line buying planners and stickers and telling me how much fun it was, and how it kept their life organized. I am very organized, and have used a planner for years, but it never occurred to me that I could use stickers to decorate and organize my planner. Shocker, right?
This hobby is also somewhat addicting. I just recently started with this hobby, and I am already the proud owner of over 7,000 stickers! I can’t stop buying them! It is so much fun to get a new pack and to go through them and pick out the perfect sticker to highlight my note or my to do task. I even encouraged one of my daughters to take up the sticker hobby.
A Fun and Creative Way to Stay Organized
I have a daily planner, and I have 3 different journals that serve different purposes. The way I decorate my planner and journals is a creative reflection of my personality.
I am a very logical, analytical, linear thinker, so if you were to look at my journals and planner, you will see those qualities reflected there. I don’t have stickers all over random places on the page. Each one is placed to highlight what I need.
I also try to put a motivational sticker on each page. I find that it really keeps me going to see that cool motivational saying. It’s much easier to tackle a task when it is highlighted by a colorful sticker that tells you “you’ve got this!”
I also love color, so my pages are a mishmash of color. I don’t need a central matching color scheme. I really like the different splashes of color each sticker brings to the page. If you like things to match, though, then there are plenty of stickers in similar color schemes to fill your pages just fine. Get creative with it!
A Fun Hobby for Everyone
Whether you are a harried stay-at-home mother, a CEO of a fortune 500 company, or a retired grandmother, this hobby may be for you. It can provide an outlet for your creativity without taking up tons of your time or breaking the bank, with added bonus of keeping your life organized and on track.
It can provide a few moments of much-needed fun for anyone. Life is way too short to have no fun in it.
It’s really easy to get started. All you do is go to your favorite craft store and look through their sticker selection for stickers that best represent you and your ideas or needs. The sticker books are named. For example, I have a sticker book named “Day to Day” which has stickers that help with scheduling and prioritizing things that I need to get done. Pick a couple of books that seem to suit your needs and see how much fun it is!
For more fun, you can decorate your children or your husband, or yes, even your furbaby with stickers. You can get silly with it and turn it into an easy game to play. (I would recommend using a very inexpensive pack of children’s stickers for this activity, though.)
You Can Save on Stickers at Hobby Lobby
If you have a Hobby Lobby store in your town, you can save money on your stickers. Their brand, Agenda 52 by Paper Studio, goes on sale every other week for either 40% or 50% off. The store will also run the Happy Planner line at 40% off every other week as well. You can check their weekly ad on their website to see which one is on sale for the week. They also have a pretty good selection.
I admit I’m a little late to the sticker decorating craze, but better late than never I always say. I usually give up a hobby shortly after I begin, but I think this will be a hobby I can stick with!
